The single most valuable free thing available to a local business, and most Tucson shops have it half filled out and abandoned since 2021.

If you run a business with an address or service area in Tucson, learning how to set up Google My Business correctly matters more than most website tweaks. Your Google Business Profile controls the map listing, business hours, call button, reviews, and photos customers see first. For many searchers, that profile answers their question before they ever visit your website.

And most profiles I look at are half done and untouched for years.

The primary category matters most

You pick one primary category and it carries enormous weight in what searches you show up for. Get it wrong and you are invisible for the thing you actually do.

Be specific. Not Contractor if you are a Roofing Contractor. Then add secondary categories for everything else that honestly applies, but do not stuff it with things you do not really do. That backfires.

Photos, and I mean real ones

Your storefront so people recognize it from the street. The inside so they know what they are walking into. Your team. Your actual work, before and after.

Not stock photography. People can tell instantly and it reads as a business that either does not exist or does not want to be seen. A slightly awkward real photo beats a perfect fake one every time.

Add a few every couple of months. Activity counts.

Hours, including the weird ones

Regular hours, and special hours for holidays. Nothing burns goodwill like driving across town on the Fourth of July because Google said you were open.

And make them match your website exactly. Mismatches confuse Google and annoy customers, which is a bad combination.

The parts people skip

Services. List them individually with short descriptions. It gives Google actual words to match against searches.

Products, if you sell any. Free, and it puts a little gallery right in your listing.

Q and A. This is public and mostly empty on every profile in town. You are allowed to post your own questions and answer them. Do the four things people always call and ask. Do you charge for estimates. Do you work weekends. What areas do you cover.

And Posts. A short update twice a month. It shows in your listing and it signals to Google that somebody is home.

Then keep it alive

This is not a set it and forget it thing. New photos, new posts, reply to reviews, update hours when they change.

A profile somebody tends beats a profile somebody filled out once. In a market this size that alone can move you into the map pack.

That is the whole article. If it was useful, there are 27 more, and one email when a new one goes up.
